Twenty Buckland’s Beach Intermediate School boys shaved their heads at Botany Town Centre.
On Saturday 22 March the 20 plus boys, plus one dad, one brother and the barber had a fantastic time and really got into the head-shaving and fundraising for Shave for a Cure. The boys had their heads shaved and shook collection buckets to help raise funds.
The teachers at Buckland’s Beach Intermediate held their Shave event earlier in the week in the student Hall. Deputy principal Ian Dickinson was one of the shaves.
He was quoted in the Easter Courier, saying: “It’s a fantastic cause; we’re trying to get our kids to take positive action in the community and we’re being role models for them.”
Shave for a Cure organiser teacher Greg Chadderton says they’d met their fundraising goal of $2,000 and were aiming to raise $3,000. They boys fundraising total will be added to the teachers’ for an overall school shave total.
Mr. Chadderton was quoted in the Easter Courier saying: “I’ve had friends that have been affected by it, which gives it more meaning. It’s important for the kids to understand that cancer affects everyone and we should raise awareness of it.”
